Workshop 1
The first workshop for this project took place on 23 November 2011 in the Glasgow Skills Academy and brought together approximately 40 representatives from public, private and community organisations from across the region.

Aims of Workshop 1

Introduction to climate change adaptation;

Build networks with organisations from different sectors;

Identify climate change impacts;

Share information about existing work;

Identify priority areas of adaptation work and opportunities to contribute to existing work.
The workshop featured the following presentations and activities:
Introduction to adaptation and the project – Anna Beswick, Public Sector Officer, Adaptation Scotland provided an overview of the project and its aims, introduced participants to Adaptation Scotland and explored the idea of change and adaptation including climate change adaptation.
Climate Change Challenge Game - This fun board game activity provided an ice breaker where participants worked in teams and tested their decision making skills while at the same time learning about some of the impacts and opportunities might bring.
Climate Change Adaptation in London - Alex Nickson, Strategy Manager for Climate Change Adaptation and Water with Greater London Authority provided an overview of the challenges faced by the city and the work that is underway to prepare for and respond to the impacts of climate change.
Climate Information - Joseph Hagg, Science Officer, Adaptation Scotland presented an overview of changes that have already occurred in the region and looked ahead to the projected climate changes and what these might mean.
Future impacts & consequences – this group activity identified climate change impacts and consequences for key sectors including infrastructure, business, regeneration, planning, the natural environment and water resource management.
Collaboration and partnership - the final group activity explored opportunities for developing collaborative, partnership and cross-sector work aimed at better understanding and preparing for the impacts of climate change.
