UKCIP Local Climate Impact Profile (LCLIP)
‘Starting with the present weather makes for a relatively simple introduction to the longer term complexities of exploring the future’.
UKCIP, 2009. A local climate impacts profile: how to do an LCLIP, UKCIP, Oxford.
LCLIP projects provide an opportunity to explore the impacts and consequences of recent past weather events. The process involves reviewing local media reports and interviewing key stakeholders to identify local impacts and consequences.
LCLIP findings are commonly used to raise awareness of the impacts and consequences of extreme weather events and begin discussions about vulnerabilities to the future projected changes in climate.
Where have LCLIP projects been done in Scotland?

Visit the LCLIP project findings section of the website to view information about all completed Scottish LCLIP projects. This section also includes national summary information including the national LCLIP media records log which is also included at the bottom of this page.

What information and support is available?
LCLIP guidance
Visit the LCLIP section of the UKCIP website to download the most up to date guidance on how to carry out your own LCLIP project. This website includes a link to an LCLIP pack, this pack contains all the guidance, monitoring spreadsheets and supplementary information that you need to get started with your LCLIP work.
National log of recent past high impact weather events
Adaptation Scotland has combined the media monitoring records complied from all Scottish LCLIP projects and created a national log of recent past high impact weather events.
This log can be used to help organisations starting new LCLIP projects identify recent past weather event information of relevance to their area. Download the log, along with essentail background information at the bottom of this page.
The format of the log is based on the monitoring spreadsheet provided by UKCIP for recording media monitoring information. Organisations undertaking LCLIP work are strongly encouraged to make use of UKCIP’s media monitoring spreadsheet so that the records that they identify can be transferred into the national log.

Adaptation Scotland has sent up an informal network of information sharing meetings to support the development of LCLIP projects in Scotland.
