Area based project: Climate Ready Clyde
Bringing together organisations across all sectors to address the adaptation challenges facing Glasgow and the Clyde Valley
Aim of the project
This project has been initiated to provide organisations across Glasgow and the Clyde Valley with an opportunity to work together to learn more about how the region is likely to be impacted by changes in climate. It will also provide a forum for organisations to identify priority adaptation challenges and opportunities and implement work to address these.
How does the project work?
The project has been established around four workshops. The first workshop took place on the 23rd November in Glasgow, three subsequent workshops will be run between February 2012 and March 2013. In addition to these workshops Adaptation Scotland will work on an ongoing basis with participating organisations to support the use of adaptation tools, development of projects and use of climate information.
Who can participate?
The project is open to public, private and voluntary sector organisations operating within Glasgow and the Clyde Valley. The first workshop saw participation by approximately 40 organisations from across the region. Although it is preferrable to maintain as much continuity as possible throughout the workshops, relevant organisations that could not attend the first workshop are welcome to join future workshops. Places at the workshops are offered on a first come first served basis and will normally be limited to one participant per organisation. Please contact Adaptation Scotland to register your interest in attending the workshops. Email: adaptationscotland@sniffer.org.uk
What level of commitment is expected from participants?
Organisations wishing to participate in the project will be requested to attend and actively participate in the four project workshops. Additional input in terms of involvement with projects that may emerge as a result of the workshops will be at the discretion of participating organisations.
What are the benefits for participants?
- Build networks with organisations from different sectors and identify opportunities for joint working to address adaptation priorities. The project will provide an opportunity for organisations to share knowledge, build expertise and create a community of interest to help drive adaptation work forward across all sectors.
- Share existing research and knowledge about climate change vulnerabilities, impacts and adaptation options. Much excellent work is already underway in the area to plan and prepare for the impacts of climate change, the project will provide a platform for this work to be discussed and disseminated widely.
- Build on existing work and establish new adaptation projects with help and support from Adaptation Scotland. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and identify shared threats and opportunities that may arise as a result of changes in climate. Where possible Adaptation Scotland will provide support to help develop projects that participants view as critical to progressing an integrated and planned adaptation response for the area.
- Find out about the resources and tools that are available to help develop adaptation work including support to use Adaptation Scotland’s Adaptation Workbook. There are many resources available to help organisations work towards developing and implementing a planned approach to addressing the impacts of climate change, the project will provide information and advice about how to use these
- Access to the latest climate science intelligence, including information about recent past and future projected changes in climate. Good quality, clearly presented climate information lies at the heart of adaptation decision making processes; project participants will be provided with access to this information with a particular focus on developing skills to communicate key aspects to a variety of audiences.
