Adapting to climate change. How prepared are you?
10/06/10
Glasgow City Council chambers proved to be an excellent venue for a day of thought provoking presentations and discussions.
The day started with Glasgow City Council’s Head of Transport and Environment, Sandy Gillon, reaffirming the council’s commitment to planning and adapting to the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change.
Joseph Hagg, SCCIP Science Officer kicked off the formal presentations with an overview of recent past and future projected changes in climate. Glasgow City Council’s Gill Morgan then presented information from the city’s LCLIP research alongside case studies of the sophisticated flood prevention measures being introduced across the city. Thematic presentations followed with opportunities to discuss some of the impacts of changes in climate for the transport, built environment and health and wellbeing sectors. After a well earned lunch break participants took part in a workshop aimed at identifying some of the impacts and consequences of key changes in climate for different local authority departments.
