Biomatrix win Adapting Scotland prize at 2019 VIBES Awards

At a packed award ceremony in Glasgow City Centre we were delighted once more to be presenting the prize for businesses taking a proactive approach to developing products and services that help us adapt to a changing climate. This year the winner was Forres-based firm Biomatrix Water.

The VIBES awards aim to encourage the efficient use of resources, enhance the competitiveness of businesses, improve environmental performance and support the wider goals of sustainable development including social benefits through community and staff involvement.

Anna Beswick explains why we’re sponsoring this award:

The 2019 Adapting Scotland winner, Biomatrix Water state on their website:

"By integrating ecology and engineering we deliver solutions which build on the power of nature. We create habitats & improve biodiversity, designing beautiful living waterscapes and natural water quality and wastewater treatment solutions which bring water to life"

Their floating ecosystems can help transform previously degraded waterways into nature corridors that can provide sanctuaries for wildlife, provide spaces for food production and places for people to go and feel a connection with nature.

Biomatrix were up against some other very strong candidates in EGG Lighting, Intelligent Growth Solutions and uFraction8. Each has shown how the innovations that business can deliver are key to helping Scotland adapt to climate change and create resilient communities.

VIBES is a partnership between Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), The Scottish Government, Energy Saving Trust, Highland & Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Water, Zero Waste Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage.
